Sound Factory Orchestra
The Avant-garde Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Wrocław “Sound Factory Orchestra” officially began its existence with a concert on 13 May 2010 at Wrocław. Before that, for many months the ensemble had prepared for performing on stage by doing rehearsals and participating in workshops devoted to contemporary interpretation and performance techniques relating to new music. This allowed the Orchestra members to achieve high artistic standards, required to undertake concert activities.
The ensemble has given a number of concerts in Poland and in Germany, performing – apart from 20th-century classics – pieces specially written for the occasions.
The Orchestra is primarily made up of academics, graduates and outstanding students from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, one of the best institutions of higher artistic education in Poland, supported by artists from other centres. A prerequisite for becoming a member of the Orchestra is a high artistic level of the candidate, adequate team work skills and experience in performing new music.
The Orchestra focuses on contemporary and 20th-century music, only exceptionally playing older pieces. It cooperates with the Computer Composition Studio of the Academy of Music in Wrocław as regards performance of electroacoustic and computer music as well as with The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław as regards interactive multimedia artworks.
The artistic director of SFO is assist. prof. Robert Kurdybacha.
